The Buzz

The clock radio flashes in large, emerald figures
It gives a gamma glow to the darkness
If I hold out a hand and splay my fingers
The green is hidden, swamped by black, gone
And the night breathes a little more easily
Yet still an incessant electric buzz remains
Purring like a cat on steroids, malicious feline
I unplug its socket, stubbing my toe in the process
But the buzzing does not stop, it never stops
Because no matter how hard I try, I can’t unplug my head
