Imagined Utopias

Cleaning windows with muddied water, I strive
Determined to see the world in this other place
This better place, your imagined utopia of perfect everythings
Where the the roses bloom in constant proliferation
The birds tweet music from our favourite songs
The sky a vivacious blue and not a gloom-riddled grey
And then it strikes me, as tears drip to swirl in my bucket
That I’m already inside and trying to look out
And this imagined utopia is my own, my very own
This imperfect collection of everythings and nothings
I’m to blame, and you’re on the outside laughing
