Free Writing Resource (

Hello everyone.

I stumbled across a little gem of a site that might be of interest to anyone who does a lot of writing or is looking for something that bit different. I thought I’d share it with you. It’s free.

If you go to, you’ll be presented with a smashing app that works in any desktop browser but appears as good if not better than most native apps. It’s a writing environment capable of single texts or whole projects. There are multiple exporting options, word counts and all the necessary bits and pieces one could want. I also love the fact it is customisable. I prefer to write on a dark background (gentler on the eyes) and this not only has black but a number of other options, fonts and colour, too. Wonderful!

A bonus is that you can share links, export as, to open on or in other writing apps. As a lot of you that read me know, I often write this way.

I hate word processors, so to have another option always helps stimulate the brain. I truly hope you enjoy it. Just so you know, all they require is an email and password for it to work.

  1. Thanks, Richard. I write on my phone a lot too, mostly poetry. I use Scrivener for short stories & my novels. Formatting loss is my biggest issue when transferring to WP.
    I’ll definitely check this out.

    1. Ignore my last message, Michael, you can only share to mobile devices (I’ve updated the post). At the moment it’s predominantly desktop. Still nice, though, I’ve just been having a go.

  2. I’ll have to check this out 🙂 Im very used to Word, but it’s nice to have another option, particularly if it would work well on my phone. Thanks!!

      1. No, it’s available for Windows Mac and ios. You can try it for a month for free. If ever you get it, I’ll help you with it. Easy when you know how but I nearly died watching the tutorial. As soon as I just got on with it I was off like a shot. It really is marvellous.

  3. Thanks! This sounds interesting. I just write in Word and I get queasy thinking about other platforms since I’m jinxed when it comes to technology. One of these days, I’ll have to try something new 🙂

      1. Yes, I found yWriter while looking into Scrivener … your post timely for me as I’d been drifting back into Word for my ‘short’ pieces and of course now lost track of them … so back to yWriter asap!
