Beneath crayola skies, we lingered,
Watching little butterflies flit between branches,
Laughing at the starlings as they caused kerfuffles
That only they knew
And only they could end.
This place of colour, light and creation,
Unsullied by adolescent snobbery
And adult ignorance, bewitched us.
When did we lose it?
When did we lose us?
We sit looking at a leaden heaven
Impervious even to X-ray eyes,
Refusing to divulge either answers or lies
With weights heavier than hearts should be
Pulling at our cavernous chests.
This is not us.
This is not the way we should be.
Childhood has bequeathed us everything
And delivered nothing,
Yet to return is considered a backward step:
It is only step to regain that innocent joy.
It is funny how palpable childhood and the emotions tied to it, are. I mean yes we all know why on some level but it belies the true strength emotionally of our childhood memories. You have captured that very well here.
Thank you. I don’t remember much about being a kid but I’m sure it was better than now I’m an adult.
I had a rough childhood but despite that I enjoyed the sense of freedom and possibility and of course, the sweets!
Definitely the sweets ๐
Isn’t it ironic, as children we can’t seem to grow fast enough and once adults, we wish we could be kids again…
Anyway, glad I found time to catch up a bit at your blog again. Marvelous pieces of art as usual.
Started to read the third part of The Eternals…so far; staying up to late again, cause it’s hard to stop reading ๐
Hope all is well, sending you a big hug, XxX
Thanks, Patty, you’re an angel. ๐
I entirely agree. Where did our giggles go? Why do we turn our smiles upside down? sigh….I refuse. Now Im off to skip around the office!!
Good for you, young lady. ๐
This is great!
Thank you. ๐
