Through Anguish Laughing

Through Anguish Laughing

The stresses of this pandemic world heap upon me, so high as a mountain, so wide as a sea. Endless and vast, the truth remains buried.

I close grey orbs, wetter than they were, breathe, and open to others.

Through the eyes of a mother, I see all we miss. Through the eyes of the father, life slipping by. In a sister, there’s only hope for her own child’s future.

Another breath. Another moment. Another day. Another night.

I dream of a world without hedges, fences, police tape and more. I dream of a sun shining freely. But above all, I dream about dreaming, and for all the dreams lost.

I wake up laughing. The anguish remains.
