April/May Author Update

April/May Author Update

Hi everyone!

Here at last with a cup half full – half empty type update. The reason for my being so late to post in April was I was hanging on for some news to give you, which is still on hold. The May news, however, has come early. So here I am, betwixt and between.

Needless to say, the last few months have been a hectic blur of writing and editing. The Theatre of the Moon is still undergoing some renovations, but looks like being a classy joint, or so the proprietor, La Contessa D’argento informs me. Fingers crossed. A little side project I’ve been scribbling whilst drinking my morning coffee has just hit thirty thousand words, and several more are all doing well. It’s always good to have a variety of things to work on. That way I have no excuse not to write — not that I need one. As regards general info, here we go.

The Eternals has just been translated and released in Spanish. Good of them to tell me! Unless they did, and I didn’t understand what they meant?

Speaking of The Eternals, Hunter Hunted, Book 2 in the series, is being promoted for four days by my publisher. You can snaffle yourself a free Kindle copy from April 24th – April 28th – that’s from today.

On side news, I’m delighted to have a short piece placed in issue 19 of Bunbury Magazine (out anytime now) called The Longest Fall. The Bunbury Magazine is an Arts and Literature magazine that I can highly recommend reading. You’ll enjoy it.

Also, I was honoured to be asked to write a recommendation for a lovely young lady called Soumya Mishra, someone I’m sure we’ll all here a lot of in the future. Soumya informed me last week that she’s been accepted for The University of Sydney, (Australia,) so a big literary congratulations to her. In a world where we hear nothing but doom and gloom it’s great to see young folk getting themselves out there for the right reasons.

That’s about all for now. I wish you all a great, and hopefully, warm May.

Richard

The Big Cover Reveal

Today is the big day.

At long last I can reveal the new covers for The Eternals Series and the news that INTO ETERNITY will be released in the next few days. I’ll do a post with all the appropriate release codes etcetera as soon as it goes live. For now, however, I present the new covers in reverse order. I hope you all like them as much as me because I think they’re perfect.

One Should Always Say Thank You

I don’t want money and I don’t want fame. I would, however, like to be recognised for being good at what I do. One day, anyway.

Accordingly, I would like to extend an enormous thank you to (and you all know who you are) the many people who have written such wonderful reviews of my books. It is a constant source of personal pride to see people enjoying my words and then taking the time to write about them. To see people being so generous from all over the world Canada to Australia, USA to Germany, the UK and beyond never ceases to amaze me.

There is a lot made these days of how important it is for authors to receive reviews, especially so on Amazon, to help further their career, and nothing could be further from the truth. However, the reverse is rarely spoken of. An author should always thank people for spending their hard earned cash on his or her work, taking time out of their lives to read and hopefully review them, or just for spreading good vibes. I hope to never lose sight of this.

My dream of one day being regarded as good depends on you all and I can’t thank you enough for bringing me closer to it every single day.

Thank you again

Into Eternity (Very Soon!)

A Super-Swanky New Me

Med-Fina

Any of you who have read or purchased my books will know that I am published by a company called Creativia. The lovely people involved have just upgraded their website so that their authors and books are put front and centre. The result is the page that I had with them is now brand new and (as stated in the title) a Super-Swanky New Me.
Some of the publicity links I have received are now actually included on my author page with more to come. Accordingly, I would like to say a special thank you to Chris the Story Reading Ape and also Sally Cronin whose links are already being used there.
Please feel free to click HERE and have a nosey and see what you think. My book pages are clickable so you can peep at them too. I would be extremely grateful for any social media shares from those pages. These things are a great help to Indie Authors.

Thank you as always for reading

Hey Look 3D! (Plus, Sneak Preview)

I got a nice surprise when I opened up my email today to find these two little beauties. The good folk at Creativia, my publisher, had prepared 3D images of both The Eternals and Hunter Hunted. Very Swanky.

This was quite freaky because yesterday, unless my last proofreader finds anything, I finished Into Eternity, the final Eternals book. Done and done. It was quite a sad moment to type ‘The End‘ to a project you’ve spent five years on.

Anyhow, I thought I’d show you my posh new cover shots and also give you a glimpse of Into Eternity before anyone else gets to see it.

Into Eternity / PREVIEW: Here we find Jean traipsing across the Arctic ice, his mood dark,  thoughts elsewhere.

I paced New Washington, strolling up the tree-lined avenues, happy in my own way. I spied my love. She watched from that window of ours smiling, happy, all I should have ever wished for. Then I remembered that would never be, not again. Alba’s face faded from behind the fogging glass, her eyes elsewhere, the shining emerald of Linka’s taking their place. She glared at me in defiance, so strong, so independent. She looked right through me, shook her head, raven hair spilling across her pale features, and retreated into a false night. I disappointed her, but no less so than I did myself. My hand reached out to her, mouth begged for her return, body trembled in the moonlit night. She neither saw nor heard me, her mood displayed by her absence. I was left alone. I was always alone. Was I born for nothing else?

Blimey! That was a lot and it wasn’t even half of them.

The Winter Princess

Fields of ice and winter’s touch,

Where darkness kisses light in semi-permanent dusk;

You venture not far from here, you dare not.

Blue eyes cast to an unknown horizon

And hopes of he who forsook you.

A body that feels no chill

Shivers, wrapped in his memory,

This princess of wolves; you huddle against the Arctic storms

Fingers embedded in the fur of a friend,

Your only friend.

And you dream

There is an illusion of the woman you would be,

A transitory memory never destined to exist,

Waiting, always waiting for that dream to manifest,

To coalesce from the darkness to a deeper night: a saviour.

You, the child of the evening star,

And he who is darker than night:

Is it destiny or design?

Keep waiting, Aurora, hold on,

For all storms must pass before The End.

Inspired by the character Princess Aurora from Hunter Hunted (The Eternals Book2)

2017 Writing Goals

I read an interesting article by some wiseacre who suggested making a list of all your writing hopes and aspirations for the forthcoming year. Now I’m a writeaholic, but after scanning through the following list, I aren’t so sure it was a good idea. Nevertheless, here it is. You can all hold me to account on December the 31st. I will, of course, have forgotten this list by then and think you’ve got it in for me, but them’s the breaks.

Writing Projects (All Novels)

  1. Final prowriter run through for Into Eternity book 3 of The Eternals Series. Look to publish somewhere close to Easter.
  2. Steampunk extravaganza, Britannia Unleashed, to be given last edit and then prowriter check. Make changes if required. Look to publish mid-year.
  3. Rewrite The Snow Lily to the level I would prefer. Look to have finished by Christmas if possible.
  4. Expand on The Repaired apocalyptic Sci-Fi. Take the story from the 40 000 words already written to closer to double that. Make Marianna Bosomsworth terrifying.
  5. Enjoy, as you already are, expanding Mortimer Headlock and the Case of the Missing Moonchildren on an evening. Try to tie in with Britannia Unleashed Timelines. If all goes well and you’re still enjoying it promote this story to third on this list.
  6. Flush out further the ideas for Wolfriders.

Note to self: Three of these stories are already written so take a deep breath and go for it.

Short Stories

  1. As time allows submit from short story collection to appropriate magazines.
  2. Watch out for the release of The Shark at the End of My Bed.

Promotional

Continue to support the release of The Eternals and Hunter Hunted in preparation for the release of Into Eternity.
Try your best to continue with three posts a day on WordPress and also post appropriate posts to Facebook Author Page and Instagram. And for God’s sake learn how to use Twitter properly.

Hopes

For continued success and the enjoyment of doing what you’ve always dreamed of.

Thank you for reading my 2017 writing goals.
